Dental implants are artificial devices that are surgically placed on broken/ chipped teeth, and acts as a replacement teeth. They are usually made of titanium and other materials that do not pose a threat to the human body. Dental implants are used in case of root canal and other medical procedures that require the dentist to remove your teeth permanently. Modern dental implants work just as fine as the natural teeth.
The implant is made up of three parts-
The implant- which is placed on the upper or lower jaw bone, and is made of titanium
The abutment- which connects the implant to the crown, and is made of gold, porcelain or titanium
The restoration- which is the crown, made of porcelain fused to a metal alloy. This is either attached to the abutment, or directly attached to the implant.
